We purchased a complete home Warranty from Sears. The first time we used it it was great. After about two years we needed it again. The Samsung Washer went out. The repair tech came out and said that the "spin basket"on the washer broke.
The repair cost for the washer is $830 dollars. Samsung doesn't have a warranty for their tub, but I figured since we pay a lot of money for the Warranty we would be okay. Not so. According to the warranty company "spin baskets" are not mechanical parts and so are not covered on the warranty. And, of course, the labor isn't covered either. We were told if the cost was greater than the machine was worth, then they would help with replacement costs. Apparently that isn't true either. How is a washer supposed to work without the tub or spin basket as they call it? I am attempting to contact sears to cancel the warranty since the fine print seems to indicate that they really don't have to put the machine in working order. How is a washer supposed to work with a broken tub? If we had put all the money in the bank that we spend on this home warranty we would have more than enough for a brand new appliance. I thought it would be a good idea to have a warranty in case the air conditioner or something expensive stopped working. I'm realizing now that they could just fine print me till I'm broke. No fine print with my own emergency fund I guess. Live and learn.
