We had a patio door installed approximately four months ago. The installer s were extremely knowledgeable and did a very good job on the install. Also the installers after service was very good. Therein lies part of the problem.
1. The doors did not seal at the bottom, there was a half inch gap at the bottom where the doors meet lots of sunshine and air leakage. The installer said that he has to go back all of the time to repair the gap. Additionally since it is a double door (both doors open and close there is a knob set on each door, one set being a a dummy set) the knob sets are not even (one is noticeably lower then the other) I have called the Sears rep several times but I am still waiting for a phone call about the problem.Again the install is good BUT the door build workmanship is not so good.
2. I paid half up front to the Sears sales person, with the understanding that the remainder ()approx $3700.00) was to be interest free. He did not add that to the contract in writing bet on the read back he mentioned it several times. The interest is not overwhelming its the principle, the door carries a life time warranty, maybe.
3. I am hoping that Sears will honor their end of their end of the contract should a need arise to invoke the warranty but I am doubtful. Since I have already called them with no return call. Also, the sales representative called and said that he would be in this town tomorrow and would I mind if he stopped by to see the installation and I said yes. That was two and a half months ago (it is now Sept) and I am still waiting.
4. The door was overpriced but I figured what with the warranty being for life it was worth it.
I hope that this helps with someones purchase selection.
I "WAS" going to have Sears install about ten windows, not even a chance of that now.
So much for a national chain that used to be good.
